A breakfast event this Saturday will feature a presentation on "Living History and the Importance of Preserving Your Heritage" by David Philip Chaltas, one of the region's best known Civil War historians.
The public is invited to the 8 a.m. Dutch-treat breakfast at the General Morgan Inn. The host will be Jim Allen, executive director of the Battle of Blue Springs Planning Committee.
Following the forum, the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site and the Nathanael Greene Museum will host a Civil War encampment at the Andrew Johnson Homestead, located along South Main Street.
Activities will include talks by Civil War Confederate leaders including Chaltas as General Robert E. Lee, a period fashion show that will highlight ladies' attire, demonstrations in military drills, cloth dyeing, sewing, telegraph operation, camp life, and a PowerPoint presentation on the historic Battle of Blue Springs.
Chaltas has been featured nationally in the personna of Lee at numerous living history events.
He was selected "Teacher of the Year" by the Kentucky Council of Children with Behavioral Disorders. He is a Kentucky Colonel as well as an ordained minister who serves in the capacity of the Kentucky Division Chaplain for the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
