A day-long symposium on U.S. President Andrew Johnson and his legacy will be held Thursday, Sept. 18, at Tusculum College in the Chalmers Conference Center.
The symposium, "Andrew Johnson: Heritage, Legacy & Our Constitution," will explore the 17th president's impact on his era, on the office of the presidency and on the U.S. Constitution.
The registration fee is $10 and includes a continental breakfast.
Speakers and their topics include:
* Dr. Robert Orr of Walters State and Washington College Academy on Johnson's "Early Years";
* Dr. Paul Bergeron of the University of Tennessee on Johnson's "Civil War Years";
* Dr. Michael Kent Curtis of Wake Forest University School of Law on "Constitutional Amendments: Their Effect Then and Now"; and Dr. Eric Foner of Columbia University on "Andrew Johnson and Reconstruction."
Oliver Thomas, executive director of the Niswonger Foundation, will moderate a panel discussion.
Promotional literature on "Andrew Johnson: Heritage, Legacy & Our Constitution" states that the symposium, "appropriately held during National Constitution Week, will be lively, entertaining and educational."
The registration deadline is Aug. 29. Pre-registration is strongly advised.

* Welcome and Introductions, 9 a.m.;
* Session 1, "Andrew Johnson: The Early Years," 9:10 to 9:55 a.m.;
* Session 2, "Andrew Johnson: The Civil War Years," 10 to 10:45 a.m.;
* Session 3, "Andrew Johnson and Reconstruction," 10:50 to 11:45 a.m.;
Lunch on your own: 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.;
* Session 4, "Constitutional Amendments: Their Effect Then and Now," 1:15 to 2 p.m.; and
* Session 5, Panel Discussion and Questions, 2:05 to 3 p.m.
