Greeneville Light & Power System employee Tom Campbell hangs one of the new Andrew Johnson Bicentennial banners on a lamp post on Main Street, in this photo taken Monday morning. The banners, which have been provided jointly by the Andrew Johnson Bicentennial Steering Committee and Main Street: Greeneville, commemorate Greeneville’s year-long celebration of the bicentennial of President Andrew Johnson’s birth in 1808. The celebration began Saturday afternoon with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Andrew Johnson National Cemetery, followed by a celebration at the Nathanael Greene Museum in honor of the 199th anniversary of Johnson’s birthday. The bicentennial celebration will end on the 200th anniversary of his birthday, Dec. 29, 2008.
